Dining chairs should be comfortable, sturdy, and easy to clean. You must always consider the material of the dining chair in relation to your lifestyle and needs. As a designer I always and always look for a performance type of fabric that is easy to clean and low maintenance. A performance based fabric means it has polyester interwoven and with a mix of natural fiber, for example; cotton mixed with polyester or velvet mixed with polyester. Also, as dining chair will be moving around a lot, I tend to source the ones with light weight but as the same time sturdy.
Key Measurements to Keep in Mind
Dining chairs are usually a typical width from 17” to 24” but you want to keep in mind that every person seated at the table should get at least 25” minimum for ample seating space so that you know how many people can be seated on one side of the table, for example; if you have a 60” width table then you can seat two people on one side. Most of the time dining tables and dining chairs heights are pretty typical so you can easily find the dining chairs that could fit with most of the dining tables.
Designer Tips
It’s all about mixing light and dark, old with new, glossy with matte, mixing of materials. Splurge on the dining chairs but save on dining table if you are on a budget and you are not interacting with the table a whole lot except for set food on the table.
